Preparing for an emergency is the smart thing to do and every family should have a disaster preparedness kit. A disaster preparedness kit is a collection of basic items your household may need in the event of an emergency. Here are some ideas:
Water (at least a three-day supply)
- One gallon per person per day
- Remember to consider water needs of pets
Food (at least a three-day supply)
- Ready-to-eat canned meats, soups, juices, fruits and vegetables
- High-energy foods such as peanut butter, jelly, crackers, energy bars and trail mix
- Food for infants, the elderly and those with special dietary needs
